Posted on November 03 2017
Hi, lovelies! It’s time to meet our featured planner enthusiast for this month’s Plannerholic Spotlight – Danni Vee. She’s a mum of two and an active member of the Australian planninc community. Her YouTube channel is booming with creative ideas when it comes to planning – from planner set-ups to decorating weekly spreads, hauls, and a whole lot more! Don’t forget to connect with Danni on her social media pages.
Without further ado, read the full interview below!
Hi, Danni! We know that you’ve recently given birth to a beautiful baby girl. How are you adjusting to being a now-mum-of-two?
Right now we are still in the newborn stage of figuring out sleep and awake patterns, so things are still very much all over the place. Luckily I have a lot of support and help from my wonderful husband, and my son thinks his sister is just wonderful so I haven’t had to deal with any jealousy issues which is a relief! I think it is definitely easier to adjust this time round; the first baby is a huge shock to the system, but the second time everything just comes right back to you again.
What does a day in the life of Danni look like?
Every day is so different! At the moment being on maternity leave means I don’t have work to worry about, but I have this tiny bub that has thrown her little spanner into our whole routine! A strict schedule is impossible right now, so my game plan is to write a list of all the things I want to achieve that day and do them in whatever order I possibly can. Most days involve housework, time with kids, study, filming, and editing. On weekends we try to squeeze in as much family time as possible; we love doing things that get us outside like farmer’s markets or going for short hikes.
Let’s talk about planners. Your YouTube channel obviously shows your creativity when it comes to decorating your planners. How and when did you get into planning and becoming a YouTuber?
I’ve always been a pen and paper planner, I’m too forgetful a person not to have everything written down. My husband will tell you I’d forget my head if it wasn’t attached! I’m actually fairly new to decorative planning, which I started around early 2016. I started out watching a few YouTube videos and following some Instagram accounts, then joined some Facebook groups which got me firmly hooked! I decided to start up my channel because I get such enjoyment from watching planning videos, and I wanted to share that with others.
Can you tell us your process when decorating your weekly spread? What are your essentials and when do you usually plan your upcoming week?
I’m a white space planner, which means I like to cover my whole page in pretty stickers and washi tape. Some people find it distracting but I love the finished product. I like to use full weekly sticker kits from my favourite Etsy sticker shops, as well as washi tapes (particularly glitter and foiled ones!). In my monthly spreads, I get crafty with die cuts, stamping, embossing and more. My process is simple; I add things like birthdays and appointments in at the beginning of the week, and the rest gets written on my to-do list each day.
What does your planning nook look like?
My study is currently in the process of being renovated, so I don’t have a lot of space dedicated to my planning. I have big plans for when it’s finished though! For the moment I have my things on a tiny desk in my spare room, which is good in one way because it stops me from accumulating too many unnecessary items. For my planner videos, I actually film those on my dining room table!
Amidst your busy schedule, it’s amazing how you still have time to ‘plan’ and work on your videos. How do you manage it?
Time management is key – this is where planning becomes super important. If I wake up and try to start my day with no plan in place I will float around and forget half of what I need to do. I get up in the morning, make a cup of tea and pull out my planner, I make a to-do list for the day and prioritise it into things that need doing and things to be done if I have extra time. I always find I am more productive when I do this compared to days I don’t look at my planner.
What do you think is your ultimate remedy when you’re feeling uninspired?
I have a quick scroll through Instagram and Pinterest – there are so many talented planners and crafters out there, and seeing how everyone else uses their planners always gives me some new and exciting ideas and inspires me.
Do you think everyone should use a planner?
I say do what works for you. I can’t live without a planner; my husband has never touched one and is more organised than I am. But I definitely believe using some sort of planner is beneficial to most people if they want to become more organised and productive. Even a plain notebook can work as a planner if it helps you get your thoughts in order.
What’s the best and worst thing (if there’s any) about being a “Plannerholic’?
The best thing is being a part of the planner community as a whole. They are an incredibly supportive and inspiring group of people, and their friendship and kindness never ceases to amaze me. The worst thing would have to be my empty bank account!
What would be your ultimate advice to aspiring “Plannerholics?”
Don’t be too hard on yourself if what you were envisioning doesn’t work out just right, or if your spreads don’t look just like one of the perfect planners on Instagram. The whole point of a planner is to help you, no one else. Don’t worry about what someone else might think; just go for it! You won’t regret it.
About Danni Vee
I’m a mum to two beautiful children; a very cheeky 3-year-old son and a brand new baby girl who was only born a few weeks ago. When I’m not on maternity leave I run my own business as a freelance makeup artist and hair stylist; I mostly work on weddings these days but I also have experience in photography, special effects, short films and music videos. I also study a full-time course load at university as an external student, completing my Bachelor of Science majoring in biology and human physiology. As if that isn’t enough, I also love to get crafty with my planner and make planner videos on Youtube!
