Smooth and glowing skin is every woman’s wish. Whether you’re single or a mum, you know how important it is to take good care of the largest organ of your body. The good news is, all the lavish and expensive skin care essentials are right at home, in your pantry.
That’s right, taking care of your skin need not be expensive. You can whip up your own skin care treatments such as scrubs, toners, facial washes, masks, moisturizers, and acne treatment using the most common ingredients found in your kitchen.
Sodium Bicarbonate – This chemical compound, also known as baking soda, isn’t just used for baking and cleaning, but can also be used to exfoliate dead skin, particularly in the facial area. Baking soda has properties that clear out acne, balance oil glands, and remove dead skin cells. Simply mix 2 teaspoons of baking soda with a teaspoon of tap water to form a paste. Wash your face clean with warm water then apply the mixture all over using a gentle, circular motion. Let it sit for 5 minutes then wash it off with warm water.
Honey – A jar of raw and unfiltered honey is a must-have. It is considered as “liquid gold” for your skin because of its cleansing and moisturizing effects. Just spread raw honey on your face or your entire body using your fingertips. Leave it on for at least 15 minutes then thoroughly rinse afterward for better moisturizing effect. If you want to get rid of those stubborn pimples, mix 3 tablespoons of honey with 1 teaspoon of ground cinnamon. Apply it to dry skin and leave it for 1 hour. Again, rinse with warm water.
Sugar – This sweet condiment may not be that friendly to your waistline but sure it’s the perfect mate to your skin. Sugar contains glycolic acid that helps promote cell turnover which makes it a perfect remedy for aging or sun-damaged skin. Simply mix half a cup of brown sugar with ¼ cup of coconut or olive oil. Apply the scrub mixture to your face and all over your body to achieve that soft and silky feel. You can leave it on for at least 15 minutes before rinsing with warm water. This all-natural face and body scrub can be used twice a week for optimum results.
Extra Virgin Olive oil – You couldn’t miss out on this one if you want to keep that healthy, youthful glow. Olive oil contains antioxidants such as Vitamins A and E which fights aging and repairs dead skin cells. It’s also a great moisturizer and makeup remover since olive oil is non-comedogenic – meaning, it won’t clog your pores. Just dab a small amount of oil on your fingertips or cotton ball then gently apply it to your face. Rinse well with warm water.
Tea bags. There’s nothing like a warm cup of tea won’t do. Tea is not just great for digestion, but it is also considered a miraculous beauty remedy. Damp, chilled tea bags can help treat puffy eyelids and dark circles. It is because of the caffeine and tannin inside those teeny-tiny bags that enable blood vessels around the eyes to shrink, thus reducing swelling and tightening.
