Every parenting guide on the web will dwell on all the hard things about parenting. It will warn wannabe parents about not getting enough sleep like they used to, as their time will be tied down to their baby. They won’t be going out with their friends as much as they would like. Their kids will take up a bulk of their expenses. They say all these things but what they don’t really emphasize (which I think they should) is the fact that having kids is awesome! This article will discuss tips that you must keep in mind in order to stay happy when you feel overwhelmed with parenting. These will remind you of the reasons why you wanted to be a parent in the first place.
You like people for certain reasons. You love your sister, but you don’t love her as much when she does something you don’t like. Your husband loves you, but when you fight, he won’t particularly like you in that moment. When you have kids, they love you no matter what. From the moment they gain consciousness in your womb, they already love you. They love the sound of your voice that’s why it feels like they’re reacting to you in the womb whenever you talk to them. The very idea that you leave the room is already too much for them that they start crying. The love your kids show you is so pure that you surprisingly reciprocate it back to them without any effort whatsoever. A great guide to parenting is to just remember that you are your kids’ world (at least till they grow older), this will give you the drive to give them the love they deserve.
Having kids guarantees you a lot of laughter, especially during their younger years when they’re just so blissfully ignorant to the world around them that they just end up saying and doing the most ridiculous things. One time, my nephew just spat at my auntie’s face (he’s 1 by the way). My aunt didn’t know if she should get mad or laugh out loud. However, no matter how adorable your kids are with all their blunt yet innocent comments, a good parenting skill is to know how to gently tell your kids to be nice and to let them know that sometimes their comments can really hurt people.
One great thing about being a parent is seeing your child grow up. You get to witness how they do things slowly but surely, and when they do perfect a task, you beam with pride at how amazing they are, even with small achievements like walking up the stairs or jumping. Seeing them fulfill their goals and chase after their dreams suddenly becomes your life’s mission and it gives you so much joy when you know that they’ve achieved all they’ve worked for. A parenting guide for kids to become successful and happy is to support them with what they want and steer them in the direction that will help them fulfill their end goals. Don’t belittle their passions or force them to something they don’t want to do.
What I love about having children is seeing someone who’s part of me and part of the person that I love in this small package. I never realized how cute I was as a child, or how adorable my husband looked like when he was young. It’s a bit narcissistic but honestly, it’s so cute!
When you come home from a tiring day’s work, your day becomes just a little brighter when you see your kids racing towards you with those chubby cheeks and warm smiles. They make all the work worth it. With all the negativity that can cloud a day, the fact that your family is waiting home just for you makes all the trouble trivial and meaningless. Some people may consider having kids as an added burden to your already heavy load because they’re another mouth to feed, or their education still needs to be paid and all that other negativity. But trust me, if you have kids, your work now has a purpose. In fact, kids are a great help to parents. They give them the drive they need to move forward with life.
Watching the latest Despicable Me movie when you have kids is mandatory, but when you watch it as an adult, people start judging you. As a fan of cartoons and all things childish, having kids means I get to do all the fun and silly activities I used to do without being judged as being too old. You love going to amusement parks? As an adult, people might think you’re a tad bit too old, but when you have kids, it just looks like you’re chaperoning. Going out for some ice cream in the middle of the night might make you look like a glutton, but when you have kids, it just means you’re going out for dessert with them. You can dance more, sing more, and become silly yet people won’t judge you for it. It’s all part of having kids.
All the tips I mentioned above are tied into one unifying truth, and that is being a parent is fun because loving your kids is worth it. It’s worth all the 3 a.m. walks to the kitchen to get them some milk. It’s worth all the mess in your house that you have to clean and all the dirty clothes you have to wash. It’s worth all the money you spend that’s not for you and it’s worth all the trouble because at the end of the day, the love you have for your kids that you didn’t imagine you could ever possess makes parenting an amazing job to have.
